Robert Wiltshire founded Wiltshire & Company in January of 1992. Robert's professional background includes 30 years of service to organizations in the non-profit sector. He began his consultant work in 1985 and has provided development solutions for several dozen non-profit client organizations. In his career, Robert has also served over 50 churches and church agencies as a consulting partner in their ministries.
Prior to entering the consultant field, Robert was employed in the following professional positions:
- Executive Director of the Asheville-Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (1974-1981)
- Director of Development of the YMI Cultural Center, a local project of community black churches (1981-1985)
- Interim Executive Director of the Pisgah Legal Services (1982-1983)
These settings utilized his skills in the development of new organizations and programs. The work tasks involved administration and management of a multitude of organizational issues, budgets and personnel as well as fund-raising responsibilities.
The pivotal reference point of Robert's career is his ministerial vocation. After graduating in 1973 with a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary, New York, he was ordained as an American Baptist Minister in 1978 by New Mount Olive Baptist Church of Asheville, a local African-American congregation. Through his ministry, he espouses an ecumenical spirit that honors denominational traditions and a commitment to interracial cooperation. Stewardship is a consistent emphasis throughout his ministerial career starting with his seminary master's thesis. Wiltshire & Company offers services that reflect this ministry at the heart of its professional consulting work.
Robert attended Princeton University and holds a bachelor's degree with honors in American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following college, he worked in residential childcare institutions, church settings and briefly as a teacher and coach. His background as a student-athlete has evolved into a life-long interest in health promotion.
Community service involvement includes local participation with the Asheville legal services program, human relations council and community revitalization committees. From 1981-83, Robert served on the State Advisory Panel of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. Mr. Wiltshire has provided leadership in workshops on fund-raising for various local and state groups as well as nationally with Partners for Sacred Places.
"Early in my career I realized that many wonderful dreams for ministry and service go unfulfilled because of untapped resources. I believe, however, that our Creator God provides humankind abundant resources as well as the faith capacities to move figurative mountains. As I have honed my professional skills throughout my career, I have enhanced my abilities to assist groups of people to work the clay of their dreams, to give generously, to marshal their available resources and to fashion the tools that facilitate their dreams. I am grateful that my consulting work can serve for the upbuilding of God's people in a variety of settings."
